With the holidays coming, the world wide web can be a great place to do all your holiday shopping, pay bills, keep in touch with loved ones, find out about your local pro bono organization. Delaware Volunteer Legal Services is proud to announce that we are now a part of the World Wide Web. As part of our efforts to get our name out there and increase our client base as well as our attorney base, we saw no other way but to jump on the Internet bandwagon.
The web can be a great means of disseminating information, as well as communication. Websites can be an efficient way to streamline information, as can e-mail. Instead playing the old game of “phone-tag”, information can be accessed with nothing more than a few keystrokes.
When putting together the website, we tried to keep our clients in mind. The site is easily accessible and user friendly. But don’t get me wrong - the website is for our volunteer attorneys also. The site provides information about volunteering, upcoming CLE programs, DVLS Programs, links to other sites, etc. It also provides general information about DVLS and the types of legal issues we can handle. If you are assisting a client with a matter and you believe he/she may be DVLS eligible, but are not sure- go to the website. If there are people you know who cannot afford legal services and you believe they may qualify for DVLS help, go to our website. Our guidelines (except the financial amounts) are posted and can at least give you some idea whether DVLS can help. Now for those of you who need information about DVLS and are not Internet savvy, or would just rather speak to a live person, that’s fine-we’ll always take your phone calls.
The lesson to be learned with all of this is that we can all afford to be a little bit better informed about the needs of our fellow human beings, especially those who are less fortunate and cannot afford legal assistance.
So now, when you grab your surfboard and get ready to “surf the web” make sure you check out our website. Remember, a few taps on your keyboard or a few clicks of your mouse could make a huge difference in someone’s life… and what could be better than that.
Reminders:
If you
are handling a PRO BONO case that was not a DVLS matter please notify us. We like to give credit for all Pro Bono
efforts and we may be able to assist you with forms and referrals.
If you are not already a
volunteer and would be interested in signing up, please contact the Pro Bono
Coordinator (Sonal C. Patel, Esquire) at 478-8680, extension 207 or by e-mail
at spatel@delanet.com. We can never
have too many volunteers!
