| Pro Bono Assistance |

Pro Bono PFA Project
The Pro Bono PFA Project consists of pro bono attorneys representing
income-eligible victims of domestic violence on Fridays for PFA
hearings. The Victim Advocates Program continues to represent individuals
not eligible for DVLS services. The program coordinator, along
with a law student assess requests for assistance on the spot at Family
Court on Friday, the day Protection from Abuse Orders are issued.
A PFA is a civil no contact order granting the petitioner protection
from an abuser, as well as offering ancillary relief such as custody,
support, possession of property and other relief necessary to ensure
that the victim does not return to the abusive relationship. |
| Lawyer Referral Service |
|
The Lawyer Referral Service was established to:
-
Assist the public in identifying a private
attorney-member of the Delaware State Bar Association.
-
Encourage lawyers to recognize the obligation to
provide legal services to the general public.
-
Acquaint people in need of legal service with the
value of consultation with a lawyer.
Check out our Lawyer Referral Service Page to find out
how you can participate in the service.

| CLE Seminars |
|
DVLS offers free CLE Seminars to volunteer attorneys
on the "Nuts and Bolts" of how to handle particular cases.
These programs are typically held at Widener University School of Law,
or the State Building and are run by
DVLS staff and volunteer attorneys. CLE's are also offered by the DSBA.

Community Outreach
Widener University School of
Law's clinic students through DVLS visit the Brandywine Senior Center, the Latin
American Community Center, the YWCA and the Battered Women's
Shelter. Center staff members and DVLS work closely to identify
their client's legal problems and to make appropriate referrals.
DVLS staff continue to visit homeless shelters periodically and
receive referrals for potential clients.
